Moonball
Moonball
by Benjamin Aw.
Moonball is a fun challenge to create team-work an encourage strategic thinking and resilience with the participants.
Goal
Using only their bodies, participants will have to keep all balloons in the air for a duration of 1min without any balloons coming to rest.
Materials
Instructions
- Each participant is given 1 balloon and have the blow up the balloon to a minimum size designated by the facilitator.
- Once everyone is ready, all participants must keep all balloons in the air for a duration of 1minute.
- Should any balloon come to rest on any surface (holding on hand, land on chair/table, tie balloons together), the entire team needs to restart the timing.
- After every restart, facilitator is to ask the team ‘Do you need time to strategise or does anyone need to say something?’
- Should there be any individuals who want to, give them the air time to do so or some time to strategise.
- (For increased difficulty) If necessary, you can increase the difficulty by increasing the amount of balloons each person needs to handle from 1 to 2 with a maximum of 3 balloons.
- (For decreased difficulty) You can give additional lifelines (chances) for the game or only catch them should teh balloon come to rest on the floor.
- The activity comes to end when the timing of 1minute of achieved.

Points of Consideration
- Look out for safety hazards around the play area as participants might miss hazards such a s ledges, stairs or objects as they focus on the balloons.
- Check-in with the participants if anyone is afraid of balloons or balloons popping. Should they be overwhelmed, create a safe space for them where they can stay away from the gameplay.
- Some participants may not be able to blow up or tie the balloon. Offer assistance or ask participants to support one another.
- Ensure participants do not share the balloons due to hygiene concerns.
Debriefing Questions:
- How did the team go about solving the problem?
- Was there any discussion or strategising or do they just commit into action and keep trying?
- What opportunities did the team take try to improve their situation or try to solve the challenge? Who rose up to do so? How did they do that?
- How did the participants handle failure and what actions/behaviours/words came up due to the failure? What did the team choose to do after that?
- (Regarding their situation/context) How can the team apply these concepts or points discussed into their particular challenge or context?
